Update: A few hours after the posting of this article, The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 were both removed from Steam, and the Xbox 360 version of 2 was removed from the Xbox Store, eliminating the final digital versions of both of those games. For more on both of these titles, check out Hardcore Gamer’s reviews of The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which both receive ample praise for being better than the average movie-based video game. Its sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, released on those four platforms as well as PS4 and Xbox One, with the only digital versions remaining also being on the Steam Store and, oddly enough, as an Xbox 360 purchase on the Xbox Store, although the game is not currently backwards compatible on Xbox One. The Amazing Spider-Man originally released on Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Wii U, with digital copies still being available on the Steam store. Gamers looking to get their web-slinging fix on current-gen consoles will now have to track down a physical copy, or wait for Insomniac’s upcoming PS4-exclusive take on the friendly neighborhood superhero. The video game versions of the 20 films, The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 are now, with one strange exception, no longer available for purchase on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, or the Wii U e-Shop, despite the games originally releasing on each of those platforms. The Amazing Spider-Man game does a similar job of reintroducing fans to a concept theyre already familiar with, dropping Spidey into an open world version of Manhattan for the first time in years. The latest culprit? Activision’s The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel. If you are a fan of Spidey at all, this one is a must play.As digital gaming stores start to show their age, a newfound tradition for the beginning of each new year has been determining which games have had their licenses expire and, as a result, are no longer available to purchase. It’s a quirky little Spider-man game, but it has a great deal of character. The game features an open world/free-roaming concept and the combat system is reminiscent of the Batman game series. Don’t worry though, because Venom can feed on just about anyone and drain health out of them. The Amazing Spider-Man Overview The Amazing Spider-Man is an open world action adventure game based on the Marvel Comics character, Spider-Man. In order to be able to run The Amazing Spider-Man at a minimum standard for the game, you will need a CPU ranked better than Intel Core® 2 Duo 2.6 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+, more than 3 GB of RAM, a GPU that is better ranked than 512 MB 3D hardware accelerator card required 100 DirectX® 9.0c with Shader Model 3 support. In addition, Venom gets around via jumping and climbing rather than the use of web-shooters, and his health constantly depletes slowly due to the suit feeding upon its host. Spider-man is faster and does less damager per shot, whereas Venom is a lot more powerful but is also slower. The Ultimate incarnation of the fan-favourite symbiote has a different backstory (being an experiment rather than an alien) but that aside the story is interesting, and the game plays very differently depending on which of the two characters you are playing. That’s right, you get to play Venom, and that includes open free-roam after you beat the game. In Ultimate Spider-man your time is split between Peter/Spider-Man, and Eddie Brock/Venom. The thing that is most likely to sell a Spider-man fan on this game however, is the fact that you aren’t just playing Peter Parker and fighting villains. This aesthetic does come off as a little silly at times (the ridiculous size of the spider that bites Peter to give him his powers comes to mind), but overall it’s very well done. It makes no attempt at all to look realistic, and the finished product is all the better for it. The first thing that sets it apart from most other Spider-man games, is it’s deliberately comic-book feel, with its cell shaded characters and environments. I played this on the Xbox when it came out back in 2005, and to this day it remains one of my all-time favourite Spider-man games. I have often felt this one didn’t receive as much love as it deserved.
